Abstract

This article aims to present philosophy as a mediation of human formation in school education, with
José Ortega y Gasset and Ivan Illich as main thinkers who approach the criticism of technicality and
the unschooling of the present educational model. Showing that these thinkers can contribute to the
historical understanding of the past and the present and, certainly, they can help man today to realize
how far the school is far from the ideal of human formation, being necessary to fight for a philosophy
that aims to be a mediation in school education, capable of helping to build a humanity that you find
yourself because you know yourself and are able to take certain steps. It is up to this article to show
how much Ortega y Gasset's thought is necessary for this context of 21st century society, in which the
technicality and specificity of each discipline and knowledge is so widespread and defended by a large
part of the population, showing what titles say who the person is; as well as Ivan Illich's great criticism
of the model of education that has favored the school and its teachers more, than the student who is
and should always be the center and the real concern of all education.
